According to IT security provider Panda Security, over 30 million people have been tricked into installing fake antivirus software (read here : Fake Antivirus Programs Claim 30 Million Victims). Buy your own antivirus software from a box and keep it up to date is best solution. Also remember : if you are ever surfing the net and a pop-up window tells you that your computer has a problem, don’t believe it. If in doubt you can always run your own antivirus software that you purchased to scan for potential issues.

More than 30 million internet users have fallen victim to the false anti-virus program that takes people to money and personal information, security research company PandaLabs has announced. The phenomenon may not be a new one, but grew more and more popular as scammers get more cagey. Now there are over 7,000 variants of this type of adware, said PandaLabs, and the number of infections caused by this increased rapidly.
Users can be infected with the antivirus software is counterfeit scam in the same way as other types of the virus or malware downloaded by the content of the P2P network, open an attachment from an e-mail address is not known, or visit a malicious Web page. Often we already know (perhaps with a computer service in our parents and other less-tech-savvy family members), users often see duped by the software’s pop-up window that claims the machine is infected, bluescreens false, or other problems annoyances (PandaLabs notes one in which cockroaches crawl all over the desktop).
